2021 OVERRUN

about

Hospitals are overrun. Capitols are overrun. Canals are overrun. Farms are overrun.

2021 is OVERRUN!

To hear 2021 OVERRUN on other platforms like YouTube and Spotify, go to distrokid.com/hyperfollow/moule/2021-overrun!

My THIRD speedcore release and 54th release, "2021 OVERRUN" soundtracks our ongoing descent through the 2020s. Inspired by ridiculously fast rhythm game levels, it is both the 2021 version of 2020 OVERTURE, and the sequel to 2020 OVERKILL.

It's also my second extratone release, as it regularly sits at 1000 BPM and reaches as high as 1500 BPM! There will always be a soft spot in my heart for ridiculously fast tracks. <3

I think this is one of the best speedcore tracks I've done. I've spent a lot of time experimenting with a "blast" sound effect, shortening it to about a fiftieth of a second, applying distortion filters to it, and then dragging it so it blasts several times a second, chopping it and doubling speed erratically. It produces a much more satisfying noise more characteristic of extratone, and in my opinion is much more listenable than 2020 OVERKILL's extratone blasts.

The title comes from the fact that elements of 2021 just scream "overrun", whether it be hospitals overrun with COVID patients, crematoriums overrun with bodies, the U.S. Capitol building overrun with rioters, the Suez Canal overrun with ships, the water overrun with pollution, the sky overrun with rocket attacks, or Australian farms overrun with mice. On top of this are a rise in COVID numbers, deaths, war casualties, cyberattacks, and power grid failures. All of which are summed up as this aggressive, extremely fast track. The curse of the 2020s continues.

Fun facts about 2021 OVERRUN:

- Its cover art was originally going to be blue.
- It actually begun production on the same day 2020 OVERKILL was released (December 28, 2020) as the first of four tracks, including the violin section (originally much slower), two speedcore sections, and the funeral music section at 4:55, the latter originally going to be its own track inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fugue in C minor, BWV 546". I decided to integrate them all into this one track, which I mainly worked on in early June 2021.
- The track echos 2020 OVERTURE's erratic structure, as well as sound design techniques learned from 2020 OVERKILL.
- I honestly think this is the best speedcore and extratone track (and cover art) I've made so far.
- Despite it's much more crazier cover art and cleaner rapidfire beat sections, it's not as fast as 2020 OVERKILL, which had more simpler cover art in my opinion.
- It's my 140th track!
- I hid a quokka in this cover art somewhere...can you find it?
- Extratone is a legit music genre and I refuse to be convinced otherwise!
