2023 OVERHEAT is unapologetically noisy music soundtracking our sweltering 2023, with record ice loss, wildfires, ocean heat, climate disasters and an increasingly unstable social and political landscape.

This track combines three extreme music genres: the harsh sound of death metal, combined with with the outrageously high tempos of speedcore and extratone, with this track's tempos ranging from 750 to 6000 BPM! Previously in these set of tracks each tracks' BPMs reflect how crazy each half of a year in the 2020s is, but since 10000 OVERKILL I am challenging myself to make much faster music, so this one is 6000 BPM!

I call this set of tracks the 202X SERIES, my decade-long project soundtracking the 2020s two extratone tracks at a time. This one's the 8th one in the series!

As for how I made this track, I began making it on September 19, the same day I began making Cyber Threat Resistance League. In addition to the usual extratone elements of having a distorted beat played really fast in an arpeggiator, the use of an electric guitar adds a death metal element to it, chosen because it's themed about heat and the unusually "hellish" summer the Northern Hemisphere experienced this year. What naturally followed was the 750 BPM splittercore blast-beat drumming before crescendoing into the 6000 BPM layered extratone arpeggiations. On September 24th, I posted a preview video of it playing in Logic Pro on my Mastodon server: mastodon.moule.world/@MOULE/111119966975553884

As I was close to finishing this track, I had no idea if I should continue editing it, to which I decided that I don't like knowing something is "almost complete" (I just HAVE to get it to the finish line and will work for hours on end to make sure it happens!), so I should just get it distributed to services to release on December 1st and let it shamelessly revel in its noisiness, as is characteristic in both death metal and extratone music. With that being said I did try mastering this one, though I'll admit it's not on par with my mastering of other tracks like my recent release "Cyber Threat Resistance League".

The cover artwork of 2023 OVERHEAT is what I call the "202X aesthetic" of all my tracks' cover artworks in the 202X Series, which are chaotic cartoon collages depicting the events in each half of the year. Some of the events depicted in this one include:

1. Peace, symbolised by a dove, continuing to be threatened by war.
2. Twitter's rebranding to X (also shown by the dove with the two lines from the line graphs forming an X around it).
3. Satellites, particularly the controversies around Starlink.
4. AI's continued explosive growth.
5. ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 space craft on the moon.
6. Increased numbers of typhoons and hurricanes.
7. An armed uprising overthrowing leaders, as well as ongoing threats to democracy and outbreaks of violence at election polls.
8. Russian tanks doing a u-turn away from Moscow.
9. Writers on strike.
10. Treated water from nuclear contamination entering the ocean.
11. Chunks of ice separating penguins (symbolising the southern hemisphere's ice, Antarctica's "sigma six" ice loss event, and the collapse of emperor penguin breeding colonies) and polar bears (symbolising the northern hemisphere's ice).
12. Massive amounts of wildfires everywhere, including the 16,000,000+ hectares burned in Canada.
13. The OceanGate submarine implosion.
14. Messenia's migrant boat disaster.
15. The magnitude 6.8 Moroccan earthquake.
16. The dam burst near Derna, Libya.
17. Ongoing war in Ukraine.
18. The F-35 jet that was flying around on its own.
19. Web Environment Integrity (WEI) and the Internet's ongoing "enshittification".
20. Increased water toxicity killing marine life and the hottest surface sea temperature ever recorded (20.96ºC) (69.70ºF).
21. Ongoing threats to democracy and outbreaks of violence at election polls.

Other facts about 2023 OVERHEAT:

- It's my 177th track!
- The cover art was finished in around mid-September, much earlier than the end of the year when this was released. I was planning my last few releases in 2023 in advance so I would have more time to work on some end-of-year mega mixes, such as a "super mix" showcasing my first 100 releases and also the 2023 Mega Mix, in addition to preparing cover artworks and tracks to release in the start of 2024.
- Speaking of 100 releases, this one's my 99th!
