The Crypt is a theoretical encrypted layer of the dark web that's inaccessible with current ICT infrastructure. It is home to the Bugs: the rogue AIs creeping up towards the surface web and infecting it with distortions, deepfakes, deceptions, and who knows what else.

The tale of The Crypt began with a creepy video sent to Melody via a strange email address featuring a spider symbol that she soon revealed on the MOULE WORLD Fediverse Server: mastodon.moule.world/@Melody/111195543516041884

Mei also recieved a picture of the same spider symbol emailed to her from the same address: mastodon.moule.world/@Mei/111195586099640103

...followed shortly by Mei also receiving pictures of strange captcha-like distorted messages that she shared as well: mastodon.moule.world/@Mei/111211065859325286

Not to be confused with the .crypto blockchain top-level domain, Melody and Mei couldn't find any information about the .crypt TLD, so they conclude that the server that the .crypt address points to, or even the "web" it's on, cannot be directly accessed via the surface web and requires specialised software (like how you need The Onion Router (TOR) to access .onion links). What's more mysterious is how the email address managed to reach them, yet they cannot reach it in return.

Melody and Mei call the .crypt address space "The Crypt" and think AIs like The Singularity, Big Crypto, and I.D.I.O.T. – the ones tormenting them and their friends Delgado and Rocky – created this encrypted space they can retreat to.

Given the spider symbol, the surface and dark webs being called "webs", Melody and Mei decided to call the rogue AIs "the Bugs".

To counter them, Melody and Mei formed the Cyber Threat Resistance League, which forms the basis of my next track: mastodon.moule.world/@Melody/111304122291040725

Making this creepy-sounding track was relatively easy, and the same vocal transformer plug-in used in Squirrel Overboard to create those "underwater brass bugling" sounds was used once again on a distorted voice clip to raise its pitch and make it sound like screaming. The same plug-in was used on some other sounds as well. Aesthetically, the cover artwork and the video (youtu.be/ZT_Vz18LsVg) I made to promote this track were inspired by analog horror and creepy internet ARGs.

I think this and Surreality are my creepiest tracks yet, but I think it warrants said creepiness given this very strange next chapter of MOULE WORLD that could hopefully answer Melody and Mei's questions about what happened to their friends. (It's also fitting for the spooky season as Halloween is right around the corner!)
